A Saffron Crocus Fall
It has been slowly getting cold out there as fall is setting in. We always get so many leaves that it makes raking seem futile. Nevertheless the green grass covered in myriad colors and shapes of leaves has its own beauty. I experimented with planting saffron crocus this year and I might say it was easy and quite successful. I planted the tubers in pots in early Sept. It is almost Halloween now and when most plants are beginning to go dormant, there are these gorgeous purple jewels peeking out of the pots with red stamens (Saffron!). I will harvest the stamens soon and dry it. I will have very little saffron but its home grown! I never imagined I would grow my own saffron. This weekend will be busy with clean up in the garden. I have to clean up the vegetable beds and I also got several bulbs to plant. It is going to be a busy Saturday! Happy Fall!
